Swearingen Announces Members, Staff of MHDCC
On Tuesday, Rep. Jay Swearingen, (Southwest Clay County, 31st District), announced the members and staff of the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC) for the 2012 election cycle.
Swearingen was appointed to serve as the 2012 Chairman of the Missouri HDCC in January by the House Minority leader Mike Talboy (Kansas City, 37th District). Swearingen will succeed Rep. Talboy who served as Chairman of the HDCC for the 2010 election cycle.
“I am honored to be chosen for this position. It is a tremendous privilege, I'm grateful for the opportunity and I look forward to the challenge,” said Swearingen.
Swearingen was elected to his first two--‐year term in the Missouri House of Representatives in November 2010. He has a decade of experience raising money and running winning campaigns for state and national candidates with strong Democratic values.
In addition to Rep. Swearingen, the Missouri HDCC will include Rep. Susan Carlson (St. Louis City, 64th District), Rep. Jacob Hummel (St. Louis City, 108th District), Rep. Stacey Newman (St. Louis County, 73rd District) and Rep. Scott Sifton (St. Louis County, 96th District).
“I'm excited about the group of legislators willing to serve on this committee. Together we will make 2012 a successful year for Democrats in Missouri,” said Swearingen. “Republicans enjoy an unnatural House majority because Democrats didn't come to the polls in 2010. The HDCC committee and our Democratic Caucus have the plan, the skills and the resources to make a significant correction in the Republican numbers.”
In addition, Swearingen announced that Jody Murphy will join the Missouri HDCC as the Executive Director. Murphy comes to Missouri from Oklahoma where he served as the Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Senate Democratic Committee and managed several campaigns across Oklahoma.
“Jody's reputation as a political strategist precedes him, and I am excited we were able to bring him to Missouri. His skills will surely benefit our efforts to recruit and train candidates and execute successful, professional campaigns. His natural affinity for politics, his commitment to Democratic ideals and his impressive work ethic make him the perfect addition to our team,” Swearingen said.
